NY hospital begins using 7D Surgical System

Unity Hospital has become the first hospital in the state of New York to begin using an image-guided surgery system from 7D Surgical.

The 7D system is an image-guided surgery system that uses light-based imaging rather than radiation-based imaging modalities. The company calls the approach machine vision image-guided surgery and touts the platform as helping achieve faster surgical workflow for spine and cranial procedures, which reduces operative time for patients.

Unity Hospital, part of Rochester Regional Health, used the 7D system in a neck procedure on a 71-year-old Vietnam veteran with rheumatoid arthritis. The system's technology minimized the potential risk from a more traditional procedure, according to 7D and Unity.
