Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems will provide its Noona software to the Michigan Oncology Quality Consortium (MOQC) to manage cancer patient symptoms and report outcomes of their care.
Henry Ford Cancer Institute in Detroit and Munson Medical Center in Traverse City are the first two MOQC sites to deploy Noona. Varian and MOQC will oversee software implementation through the end of 2019, with the goal of deploying the platform to all 19 treatment locations by April 2020.
Noona is a cloud-based mobile application that patients can use on their smartphones to report symptoms and other relevant clinical information to their care team from any location. MOQC plans to create a statewide program to develop Medicare quality measures for these patients, improve their chances of survival, and devise a new oncology reimbursement model.
"In order to make significant strides toward developing quality measures, we understand the value and need of hearing and responding to the patient's voice before, during, and after treatment," said Dr. Jennifer Griggs, program director of MOQC, in a statement.
