A radiation oncologist from Florida who was being treated in hospital for COVID-19 has beaten the disease and was discharged on May 1, according to published reports.

Dr. Zunya Solc was discharged from BayCare Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, FL, on Friday, according to an article by WFTS television's ABC Action News team. A crowd of healthcare personnel cheered as he was wheeled out of the hospital.

Solc had spent the last month fighting COVID-19. His family said he and his wife contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus after coming back from a trip to Peru to visit friends and family. While Solc's wife was discharged in March, Solc was put on a ventilator for two weeks, and he almost died twice.

Solc is a 70-year-old retired radiation oncologist who ran a practice in the St. Petersburg area.
