UCSF develops imaging augmented reality applications

A team from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is working on developing an imaging augmented reality software application that could be used to visualize planning for liver transplants and surgery.

Called Radiology with Holographic Augmentation (RadHA), the software will be used with the Microsoft HoloLens virtual reality headgear to display 3D CT images superimposed on a real-world background, according to UCSF. A sample use of the software to view a liver mass can be found here.

The UCSF group is working with virtual and augmented reality technology developer Bencin Studios on the project.
