Health Canada has given molecular imaging technology developer Spectrum Dynamics a Canadian Medical Device License for its digital SPECT/64-slice CT scanner, Veriton-CT64.

The scanner is designed for both total body and organ-focused hybrid imaging. It has shorter scan times and lower injected activity when compared with current analog dual-detector technology, the firm said. Veriton-CT64 can deliver a head to toes SPECT/CT scan in less than 20 minutes and avoids the additional scanning that is needed when planar imaging is used for whole-body scans, Spectrum Dynamics added. In addition, the scanner has a ring-shaped gantry design that is 80 cm in bore size and allows for simultaneous 360˚ coverage.
