Australia opens new biomedical imaging research center

An Australian government agency, the Australian Research Council (ARC), has raised $8.5 million AUD ($6 million U.S.) in funds to establish a new biomedical imaging research facility at the University of Queensland.

The Centre for Innovation in Biomedical Imaging Technology (CIBIT) will train more than 20 scientists and aims to develop innovations in biomedical imaging techniques and probes. Dr. David Reutens, director of the university's Centre for Advanced Imaging, will oversee operations at the new facility.

"Our industry-led research aims to deliver the right treatment for the right patient at the right time by improving the development and application of novel diagnostics, therapeutics, and theranostics -- which combine the capabilities of diagnosis and therapy," Reutens said.
