SonaCare HIFU prostate registry reaches milestone

High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) developer SonaCare Medical said it has now enrolled more than 100 U.S. prostate cancer patients in its High Intensity Focused Ultrasound Evaluation and Assessment of Treatment (HEAT) registry.

The HEAT registry, which now includes data from more than 2,000 patients from around the world, is a Web-based electronic database that allows users to enter, analyze, and audit their own personal databases as well as access blinded data from colleagues worldwide, SonaCare said. It runs on the Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) software system, which was developed in the U.S. in collaboration with Vanderbilt University, the National Center for Research Resources, and the U.S. National Institutes of Health, according to the vendor.
