Caption Health has received a $4.9 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to develop artificial intelligence (AI) technology for lung ultrasound.
The grant is intended to address the need for early diagnosis of pneumonia among children under five, the company said.
Caption Health has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Caption AI, an ultrasound platform that assists healthcare workers without previous ultrasound experience to perform cardiac exams. The Gates Foundation grant will allow the firm to expand that technology to lung ultrasound, it said.
