House committee further delays USPSTF mammo recommendations

A U.S. House of Representatives committee has voted to further extend the current moratorium against the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) 2009 breast cancer screening recommendations and to increase spending for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), according to the American College of Radiology (ACR).

On July 12, the House Appropriations Committee approved draft legislation that delays the implementation of the 2009 USPSTF screening mammography recommendations as they apply to Affordable Care Act (ACA) coverage and any other laws that reference the recommendations until January 1, 2021, the ACR said. The bill also increases NIH funding by $1.25 billion.

The legislation will now be sent to a joint House-Senate conference committee for reconciliation with the Senate version of the appropriations bill, according to the ACR.
