Avinger receives patent for atherectomy system

Intravascular imaging technology developer Avinger has received a patent for its Pantheris image-guided atherectomy system.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued the patent for the design of the company's atherectomy catheter, including real-time image guidance, a displaceable tip, and a balloon to advance the catheter's cutting element into the targeted tissue.

Pantheris received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in May 2018.
