Dear AuntMinnie Member,
Consolidation took another turn in the medical imaging industry today with the news that contrast developer Bracco Diagnostics of Princeton, NJ, would be acquiring E-Z-EM, a Lake Success, NY, developer of virtual colonoscopy and contrast products.
Bracco will pay $21 a share for E-Z-EM, valuing the deal at $241 million. The acquisition is expected to close in early 2008 -- get the rest of the details by clicking here.
In other news, we're pleased to announce the final winners in our annual Minnies event recognizing excellence in radiology. The winners range from Most Influential Radiology Researcher (Dr. Claudia Henschke of New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City) to Best New Radiology Device (DirectView CR Mammography from Carestream Health in Rochester, NY).
Want to find out who the rest of the winners are? Then just click here, or go to minnies.auntminnie.com. And thanks to all the candidates and AuntMinnie.com members who participated in this year's event.
Last but not least, learn about the latest news that's troubling proponents of computer-aided detection (CAD). Insurance giant UnitedHealthcare of Minneapolis is reportedly considering a halt to insurance payments for CAD mammography studies, the latest fallout from a negative study of CAD published earlier this year in the New England Journal of Medicine.
