Contrast agent manufacturer Mallinckrodt of St. Louis has announced its financial results for the second quarter of fiscal 2000 (end-December 31). Combined earnings for continuing operations of the company's respiratory, pharmaceuticals and imaging divisions were $47 million, an increase of 20% over the same period in 1999. Combined sales for the quarter were $682 million, a 7% gain over last year.
Mallinckrodt's imaging segment reported second-quarter sales of $195 million, representing a 1% decline from the $196 million reported for the same quarter in 1999. Volume growth of 1% was offset by a 1% pricing decline due to the impact of foreign currency changes, according to the company. Imaging operating earnings declined to $23 million from $29 million last year due to product mix, the company said.
