EndoCare of Irvine, CA has signed distribution agreements with several international medical device suppliers in Australia, Taiwan and several European countries to market the Horizon Prostatic Stent. The device is designed to provide relief from bladder obstruction in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Horizon boasts a disposable delivery system for easy placement, and a shape-memory feature that allows it to be inserted and removed with a minimally invasive procedure, according to the company. Horizon is made of nitinol and expands after placement at body temperature, immediately opening the prostatic urethra. EndoCare recently completed a 20-patient international study of the stent, and found that it met flow rate standards set by the American Urological Association, the company said.
