GE Medical Systems and Genometrix have built a partnership aimed at combining genetic and protein data with medical imaging. Waukesha, WI-based GE formed the alliance with Glasgow-based Genometrix to combine molecular imaging and applied genomics research to quantify risk levels for diseases such as breast and prostate cancer.
GE is currently developing noninvasive molecular imaging methods, such as PET combined with CT or MR, to detect presymptomatic disease. Concurrently, Genometrix is developing genetic- and protein-based analysis systems to define and identify patient populations at high risk for specific diseases.
The companies announced the research agreement at the joint annual meeting of International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and the European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology.
