HIPAA and radiology: An OTech Webcast

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

Have the latest twists and turns of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) left you dazed and confused? Join the club. To help you sort out the mess, AuntMinnie is co-sponsoring a live Webcast on HIPAA at 2 p.m. CDT on October 23, featuring technology consulting firm OTech Health Care Technology Solutions.

OTech principal Herman Oosterwijk will be on hand to discuss HIPAA from an information technology perspective, and will cover how the act’s requirements might affect your radiology facility.

Mr. Oosterwijk will discuss the various privacy and security features of HIPAA, and will follow a checklist (available for download) that your facility can use to evaluate your HIPAA readiness. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session using live chat/feedback.

Please note that you'll need to register for the event with OTech (even if you're already an AuntMinnie member), and you should also have a current version of Windows Media Player installed on your computer to take full advantage of the audio and video. The Webcast is free, and will take place on OTech's Web site, at www.otechimg.com/webcast.php.

If you’re not able to join the Webcast on Thursday, don’t worry -- we’ll be archiving audio and PowerPoint slides in our RIS Digital Community shortly after the presentation. And, if you visit the community now, you can view an archived version of Mr. Oosterwijk’s first Webcast, an overview of RIS/PACS integration.

In other news, virtual colonoscopy providers should stop by our Virtual Colonoscopy Digital Community for the latest news on an important new study on the technique. U.S. military researchers reported clinical results for virtual colonoscopy that surpassed even the gold standard for colon screening, conventional colonoscopy. How did they do it? Find out, at vc.auntminnie.com.
