Dear AuntMinnie Member,
Our shocking report on the arrest of a radiologist in India was the most highly viewed story this week on AuntMinnie.com. Ishtiyaq Ahmed, MD, and 14 other suspects were arrested on August 22 for their alleged roles in a group known as “Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent.”
Coming in at #2 on the list is an article on new lexicon for ultrasound findings in first-trimester pregnancies. Developed by a multisociety panel, the lexicon includes – for the first time – terms such as “ectopic pregnancy,” “heartbeat,” “living,” and “viable.” Click here for all of the details.
In other women's imaging news popular among AuntMinnie members this week, researchers have found that while the combination of digital breast tomosynthesis and MRI can help avoid more deaths, it also increases false positives from breast cancer screening. Additionally, AI software can be useful in spotting and localizing interval breast cancers.
Meanwhile, another study could have implications for recognizing individuals in preclinical Alzheimer’s disease stages who may be candidates for depression treatment. Click here to learn about the PET findings associated with depression in cognitively unimpaired older adults.
Finally, our Minnies nominations period is coming to a close. If you haven’t already submitted your nominations for our popular award program recognizing excellence in radiology, now is the time to do so. September 2 will be the last day nominations will be accepted, so be sure to let us know your candidates here soon.
