E-Z-EM featured several advances for its InnerviewGI workstation at last week’s RSNA meeting. Enhancements include a new work-in-progress protocol that applies computer-aided detection (CAD) algorithms to virtual colonoscopy studies, according to executives of the Westbury, NY, vendor.
The new CAD feature is the product of a collaboration between E-Z-EM; CAD firm R2 Technology of Sunnyvale, CA; and 3-D software developer Vital Images of Minneapolis. The algorithm places an arrow next to suspicious areas that might require further review, while giving users a 3-D view of the region of interest, according to Allison Mortati, E-Z-EM product manager for virtual colonoscopy. CAD for InnerviewGI is probably 1-2 years from market, Mortati said.
E-Z-EM also showed its work on moving InnerviewGI into the cardiac screening realm with the addition of a calcium-scoring option, which measures heart plaque and produces an automated report. Adding the cardiac option to the workstation will help InnerviewGI keep up with the imaging centers that are offering both virtual colonoscopy and cardiac screening services, Mortati said.
In other E-Z-EM RSNA news, the company announced a new low-viscosity formulation of its Varibar line of products for examining swallowing disorders. Varibar Thin Liquid approximates the viscosity of water but has properties optimized for analysis of the swallowing function.
