Toshiba America Medical Systems has received Food and Drug Administration clearance for its cardiac functional analysis software package, available on the vendor's Aquilion 16 16-slice CT scanner. The "intelligent and adaptive" software performs segmented reconstruction of cardiac images, expanding the system's applications to include studies on patients with fast heart rates up to or exceeding 100 beats per minute, according to the Tustin, CA-based vendor.
Utilizing data from coronary CT angiography images, the software package provides analysis for ejection fractions, cardiac output, and regional wall motion. In addition, it can calculate multiaxis MPRs, end diastolic volume, stroke volume, and body surface area, Toshiba said. Cardiac input, stroke index, and myocardial mass can also be calculated, as well as polar maps to display regional parameters, according to the vendor.
