(Booth 6562) AFP Imaging of Elmsford, NY, will be showing two new versions of in-office conebeam CT scanners: NewTom 3G and NewTom VG, designed to provide clinical images for sinus, ear, mastoid, and airway studies.
Compact enough to permit installation of both the scanner and patient bed into an 8 x 9-ft room, NewTom 3G features a 12-inch field-of-view, and can acquire maxillofacial images at a radiation dose of about 50 microSieverts (μSv) per scan. The scanner uses a low-energy x-ray tube coupled with the company's Smart Beam technology that analyzes anatomic density to permit further reduction of radiation dose for children as it produces 3D images. NewTom 3G also outputs DICOM 3.0-formatted data.
AFP's NewTom VG scanner received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in October 2007, and offers conebeam CT scanning for patients who can either stand or sit during the procedure. Primarily intended for use in ENT (ear, nose, and throat) practices, as well as dental specialty offices, this scanner also features Smart Beam technology and can be installed in locations as small as 3 x 5 ft.
Both systems have received FDA clearance and are being sold in the U.S. and throughout the world.
