Breast cancer and genetics
In other news, a new study released this week indicates that women do not automatically have a higher risk of getting breast cancer simply because someone else in the family has a genetic predisposition for the disease.
Researchers from Stanford University found that women who had a family history of breast cancer -- but who did not carry the BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation -- did not have an increased risk of breast cancer. The new findings counter a 2007 study that found a link.
The study could offer some comfort to women who may have thought they were at high risk of breast cancer, even though they do not carry the BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation. Learn more by clicking here, or visit the Women's Imaging Digital Community at women.auntminnie.com.
