Image processing developer Acceleware has sold a perpetual, nonexclusive license for its AxRecon source code to Swiss firm Scanco Medical, which now becomes the exclusive provider of AxRecon to the medical imaging market.
AxRecon is a package based on graphics processing unit (GPU) technology that provides accelerated image reconstruction on CT scanners. Scanco said it would continue to advance AxRecon and expand its availability to a wider range of CT scanners.
Acceleware, which will now increase its focus on oil and gas markets, will retain all intellectual property rights to AxRecon and will continue to use the technology in its computer consulting business for customers outside of the medical imaging sector.
