RSNA 2013: Tell your patients your name; 320-row CT; clarifying breast lesions

CHICAGO - The 2013 edition of RSNA opened today, as radiology's showcase meeting again returns to the Windy City.

Attendees at the Sunday plenary and scientific sessions were treated to a wealth of fascinating topics. In the meeting's opening talk, RSNA President Dr. Sarah Donaldson made an impassioned plea for closer partnerships with patients, an appeal made more resonant when she presented photos of her own pediatric patients. In another RSNA Day 1 story, researchers from Japan used a 320-detector-row CT scanner to detect signs of restenosis in patients who had received stents, in some cases as small as 3 mm. Get the details by clicking here.

Finally, researchers also discussed their work in using two advanced breast imaging technologies: shear-wave elastography and automated breast ultrasound (ABUS). A group from Scotland used shear-wave elastography to predict lymph node metastasis in women with invasive breast cancer, while a study from Korea showed that ABUS had similar diagnostic performance to handheld ultrasound.
