Siemens Healthineers has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for Somatom Confidence RT Pro, a CT scanner designed to aid radiation therapy (RT) planning.
To support personalized imaging of radiation therapy patients, Confidence RT Pro isn't limited to just the traditional 120-kV tube voltage, and it can provide images that are optimized for both contouring and dose calculation, according to the vendor. In addition, the scanner includes the company's DirectDensity algorithm, which can be used to reconstruct images in which values can be interpreted as showing relative electron density at any given kV setting, Siemens said.
Other features include Siemens' iterative metal artifact reduction (iMAR) software, task-based automated kV settings, and a new detector that adds image quality and dual-energy performance improvements, according to the firm.
The scanner can be outfitted with a new version of the vendor's optional syngo.via RT Image Suite software, which includes integrated image assessment, contouring, and patient marking capabilities. The scalable software package also provides simulation tools and multimodality workflow and task support, Siemens said.
