Samsung NeuroLogica has installed its BodyTom portable 32-slice CT scanner at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis).
The university's Comprehensive Cancer Center in Sacramento added the scanner to its brachytherapy suite. Having the scanner there eliminates the need to transfer patients to a CT simulator room, reducing risks associated with moving patients such as displacing brachytherapy applicators, the company said.
BodyTom features an 85-cm gantry and a 60-cm field-of-view. When used for radiation oncology, the scanner can help medical physicists and radiation oncologists map out a course of treatment at the point of care, Samsung said.
