The extra-wide-bore Aquilion Exceed LB CT scanner from Canon Medical Systems for applications in radiation therapy has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The 160-slice scanner features a 90-cm bore and was introduced at the American Society for Radiation Oncology meeting last October. It was then showcased at the annual RSNA meeting.
The scanner's design enables better access to patients and facilitates imaging of bariatric patients, according to Canon. Planning for radiation oncology procedures may be assisted by the company's Advanced Intelligent Clear-IQ Engine (AiCE) deep-learning reconstruction technology, Canon said.
