Digital x-ray developer Swissray has announced that it has improved its direct digital radiography (ddR) detector through deployment of Blue Plus CCD technology developed by Eastman Kodak. The new technology, combined with a more efficient scintillator plate, offers improved detection efficiency and a 50% reduction in patient dose, according to the New York City-based vendor.
Kodak’s Blue Plus CCD is a new full-frame CCD technology that is 70% quantum efficient in the green-to-red portions of the spectrum, thus boosting signal strength with no increase in sensor noise, according to Swissray. It was developed for low-light astronomy and other low-light applications that have the same performance requirements as the ddR detector, according to the firm. All previously installed Swissray ddR systems are fully upgradable to the new technology, according to Swissray.
