Bone densitometry and digital x-ray vendor Hologic announced fiscal third-quarter revenues of $22.1 million, up 10% from the $20 million in sales reported during the same period in 1999. Investments in its digital x-ray business prevented the Bedford, MA-based vendor from achieving profitability, however.
For the quarter (end-July 1), Hologic had a net loss of $2.6 million, compared with a net loss of $1.5 million last year. Absent the $3.3 million loss generated by its Direct Radiography subsidiary, Hologic would have posted net income of $656,000 for the quarter.
Hologic also reported strong customer interest in its new Delphi bone densitometer and Radex digital general radiography system. The firm installed its first two Radex systems during the quarter and shipped its first Epex system last week, according to chairman and CEO David Ellenbogen.
