Hitachi Medical will begin clinical evaluation of a new gastrointestinal imaging system that incorporates amorphous silicon flat-panel DR technology from Varian Medical Systems. The Japanese vendor will be using Varian's PaxScan 4030A detector in clinical trials of its new system in Japan, according to Varian.
The 40 x 30-cm PaxScan detector can acquire high-resolution fluoroscopic images at up to 30 frames per second (fps) and radiographic images up to 7.5 fps, according to Palo Alto, CA-based Varian. It uses a cesium iodide scintillator deposited directly on an amorphous silicon thin-film transistor array, and is designed to replace image intensifier (II) /charge-coupled device (CCD) camera systems generally used for creating digital images of anatomy in motion, according to the vendor. Varian recently consolidated all of its flat-panel manufacturing efforts to its site in Salt Lake City.
