Bone densitometry developer CompuMed is planning an international marketing push for its OsteoGram bone-mass density system. With U.S. sales of OsteoGram affected by ultrasound and peripheral devices, as well as dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) equipment already on the market, CompuMed believes that the international sector represents the best opportunity for the system.
The Los Angeles-based vendor said that it is pursuing marketing opportunities in countries where medical facilities and physicians have standard x-ray equipment already in place, and are seeking a cost-effective means of determining bone mineral density as an indicator of fracture risk. The firm said it has already made progress in China, sponsoring a clinical trial and setting up a distributor network.
CompuMed expects Chinese authorities to grant approval for OsteoGram in March. The firm said it will continue to sell OsteoGram in the U.S.
