Women's imaging vendor Hologic of Bedford, MA, reported that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has cleared the company's Hip Structure Analysis (HSA) software for use in its dual-energy x-ray (DEXA) bone densitometers.
The HSA application examines the structural geometry of two-dimensional DEXA images by allowing the calculation of both the bone mineral density and the structural geometry that underlies bone strength from DEXA measurements, according to Hologic.
The application was developed through the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, MD, and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore.
