Strong international sales helped propel Del Medical Systems Group to strong growth in first-quarter sales, while the division's operating profit doubled.
Del reported $16.6 million in 2007 fiscal first-quarter sales, up 30.1% compared with the $12.8 million posted a year ago. For the period (end-October 28), the Franklin, Park, IL-based firm had an operating profit of $600,000, compared with operating profit of $300,000 in the first quarter of fiscal 2006. Del Medical Systems is a division of Del Global Technologies.
Higher international sales were achieved due to completing shipments as part of large tender orders to Russia and Tunisia, according to Del. The firm said it also experienced continued growth of its dental products business. First-quarter gross margins declined, however, from 20.5% to 19%, due to an unfavorable product mix, the company said.
