Flat-panel DR developer Edge Medical Systems of Raanana, Israel, appears poised for a comeback.
Dr. Albert Zur, who developed the company's technology, and a group of investors in 2006 purchased Edge Medical Systems from venture capital investors. The previous owners wanted to close the company in late 2005, despite their investment of approximately $30 million in the DR technology.
Since taking over, Zur and the new management have worked to complete the first detector product, received FDA 510(k) clearance for its technology, and begun marketing and sales efforts.
The flat-panel detector is based on a combination of a zero-defect monolithic direct conversion x-ray sensor with an imaging area of approximately 17 x 17 inches.
