Dear Buyer's Guide Update Member,
The market for digital x-ray systems continues to grow, propelled by the need for healthcare facilities to improve their workflow, upgrade aging equipment, and move radiography images more easily into PACS networks.
A recent market research report by InMedica of Wellingborough, U.K., predicted that the global digital x-ray market would hit $7 billion in sales in 2008, and produce $8.3 billion in revenues by 2011. In another positive sign, digital x-ray sales in the U.S. two years ago eclipsed those of analog systems, according to another report, by IMV Medical Information Division of Des Plaines, IL.
In addition to improved workflow and connectivity, users of digital x-ray systems are exploring advanced applications such as digital tomosynthesis and dual-energy imaging, while computed radiography users are beginning to have access to mammography applications as more systems win regulatory approval in the U.S. Look for digital x-ray to further spread its wings as more imaging facilities get their hands on the technology.
In this edition of Buyer's Guide Update, you'll find links to a multitude of digital x-ray products, including both DR and CR. The line between technologies is beginning to blur as DR panels find their way into portable systems, while CR vendors launch complete cassetteless systems that no longer require the transfer of storage phosphor cassettes to readers.
Looking for an easy way to compare digital x-ray technologies? We make it easy for you with our Buyer's Guide "Compare" tool. Just go to a product section you're interested in -- for example, Digital Radiography: Complete Systems -- and check the "Compare" boxes of the systems you're interested in. You'll get a side-by-side comparison of technical specifications that can help you make an informed purchasing decision.
Here are a few comparisons to get you started:

Coming up in February, Buyer's Guide Update will visit the market for interventional imaging systems, including cardiac cath labs, vascular systems, and mobile C-arms. Until then, we hope you enjoy the holiday season!
