Consolidation in the medical imaging industry took another turn today with the announcement that Carestream Health has acquired radiography developer Quantum Medical Imaging.
The deal will give Carestream access to Quantum's line of analog and digital radiography (DR) products, particularly its more advanced DR units. Carestream also will benefit from the latter firm's distribution network in smaller hospitals and imaging centers.

New details are emerging in the case of an interventional radiologic technologist who allegedly infected three patients with hepatitis C at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL.
Mayo officials last week released additional details of their investigation of the infections, which began years ago and led only recently to the technologist, who has admitted stealing drugs intended for patients. Mayo also disclosed that it is trying to contact more than 3,200 patients who could have been exposed to hepatitis C over the past several years as a result of the employee's actions.
