Arizona state and county public health officials are assisting two hospitals where cardiac cath technologist David Kwiatkowski had brief contracted assignments in notifying patients of potential exposure to hepatitis C.
Kwiatkowski was arrested in Massachusetts on July 20 and charged with infecting patients at a New Hampshire hospital with hepatitis C after he allegedly stole syringes containing fentanyl and then replaced the dirty needles with saline solution.
Following Kwiatkowski's arrest, the Arizona Department of Health Services and Maricopa County Department of Public Health learned that Kwiatkowski had spent time working in Arizona through a temporary staffing agency.
Therefore, patients who received care in the cardiac catheterization labs at Maryvale Hospital from March 9, 2009, through June 27, 2009, or at the Arizona Heart Hospital from March 22, 2010, through April 2, 2010, are being contacted by mail to recommend they undergo confidential hepatitis C testing.
