Toshiba America Medical Systems introduced a new electrophysiology (EP) package for its Infinix-i cardiovascular angiography system at this week's Heart Rhythm Society meeting in Denver.
The package is designed to maximize room utilization, as well as improve workflow and enhance safety during EP procedures. Features include 180° of unobstructed head-end access to patients, giving more room to the clinical team; a spot fluoroscopy technology that optimizes radiation dose by enabling a custom-sized spot of fluoroscopy overlaid with a last-image-hold function; sliding tableside accessory rails for attaching accessories; a ceiling-mounted equipment boom; and a surgical lamp for illuminating implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) and pacemaker insertions.
In other Infinix-i improvements, the company has released a new dose-tracking package for recording radiation dose during angiography studies. Dose levels can be viewed on an easy-to-read color-coded display, enabling cath lab operators to minimize the risk of deterministic skin injury to any given area of a patient. This is particularly important during long interventional procedures and in cases in which the patient may return to the cath lab within a few months of the initial procedure, according to Toshiba.
Toshiba developed the dose-tracking system in collaboration with the University at Buffalo, and the package has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
