Samsung is highlighting the results of a study from South Korea in which users of one of the company's mobile x-ray systems were able to reduce radiation dose in patients in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) without sacrificing image quality.
Researchers from Seoul National University Hospital used Samsung's GM85 mobile digital radiography DR system with S-Vue image processing algorithm to perform exams on NICU patients. The Samsung-sponsored study was a prospective, randomized, controlled, blinded, two-armed trial that included 40 babies who were in the NICU between July and December 2017.
The researchers found that low-dose protocols performed at 80% and 64% of equivalent dose produced images that "were statistically noninferior" in respect to overall image quality when compared with conventional protocols. What's more, the low-dose protocols delivered up to 36% lower radiation dose when compared with conventional methods, according to the study, which was published in the August issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology.
