PET procedure reimbursement may take a hit under the 2003 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS) rates suggested by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Published Friday in the Federal Register, the preliminary rule sets a payment rate of $870.11 for PET procedures (CPT codes G0030-G0047), down from $1,020.40 under the 2002 rates. FDG doses of 4-40 mCi/ml (CPT code C1775) are scheduled for reimbursement at a rate of $475.
The CMS will accept public comments on the rule until October 7. Written comments (1 original and 2 copies) should be sent to:
