Zecotek, UW collaborate on PET/MRI

Zecotek Medical Systems said it has entered into a collaborative research agreement with the University of Washington in Seattle to develop a proprietary PET/MRI detector.

Zecotek, which is based at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, will be providing new crystal materials, photo detectors, and optical components to the project through its Zecotek Medical Systems Singapore subsidiary. The major barrier to the successful fusion of the modalities has been the strong magnetic fields of MRI, which destroy the photodetection capabilities of PET, according to the firm.
