SMI unveils SkinSpect device

Optical imaging developer Spectral Molecular Imaging (SMI) of Beverly Hills, CA, has completed the development of SkinSpect, which is designed for the early detection of melanoma by hyperspectral imaging.

SkinSpect incorporates hyperspectral imaging, autofluorescence measurement, and polarization-gated detection. The software that controls image acquisition and handling is driven by a touchscreen interface and allows data and patient monitoring, image archiving and analysis, and Internet-based data transfer and teleconsults, according to the company.

Two cases of pathologically confirmed intrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas in 68-year-old male patients. In both cases (A-H, case 1; I-P, case 2), CT scans (B, F, case 1; J, N, case 2) revealed intrahepatic bile duct dilation and suspected nodular lesions.
