A three-dimensional image created by combining CT and SPECT scans has been dubbed the "Image of the Year" at this week's meeting of the Society of Nuclear Medicine.
Radiology researchers from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland fused images from the two modalities to obtain a better view of tumor size and location for guiding the treatment of individual patients with prostate cancer.
The award-winning image was publicized by Cytogen of Princeton, NJ, maker of the ProstaScint radiolabeled monoclonal antibody agent that highlights prostate cancer cells in the contributing SPECT scans. The 3-D rotating image of a diseased prostate can be viewed at www.cytogen.com/prostateimage.html.
