Radiopharmaceutical manufacturer P.E.T.Net Pharmaceuticals has launched a research center for the study of molecular medicine involving PET technology. The Culver City, CA, facility, called LA Tech Center, is operated in collaboration with the UCLA School of Medicine and will conduct in vivo chemical and biological evaluations of developmental pharmaceuticals, according to Knoxville, TN-based P.E.T.Net.
Three UCLA units are participating in the venture: the department of molecular and medical pharmacology, the Crump Institute for Molecular Imaging, and the UCLA/DOE Laboratory of Structural Biology and Molecular Medicine of the UCLA School of Medicine. The new facility is the first in a series of collaborative research ventures P.E.T.Net is planning with several U.S. and international medical schools.
The research facility is expected to house about 20 people, including senior research scientists, chemists, and radiopharmacists. It will utilize two CTI RDS 111 cyclotrons to support P.E.T.Net's commercial manufacturing and radiopharmacy distribution services, as well as the site's R&D functions, according to the firm. The site also will offer services such as laboratory design, custom synthesis, contract research, regulatory compliance, and personnel training.
