Philips introduces SkyLight upgrades

Philips Medical Systems North America is introducing new software and hardware products for its SkyLight gamma camera this week at the 2002 Society of Nuclear Medicine show in Los Angeles. The Bothell, WA-based vendor will also show a new fusion software product and a workflow integration system.

The first option for the SkyLight gamma camera is SmartStep imaging software that combines multiple manual processes into one automated step for the operator. The other SkyLight option, called DualPlanar, allows the two detectors to be angulated independently, so two patients can be imaged at once using different acquisition parameters.

Philips’ fusion software package, Syntegra, provides fully automated fusion of PET, CT, and MRI data, minimizing the need for manual data processing as clinicians simultaneously assess both the anatomy and the extent of the disease within a patient’s body. The vendor said the algorithms for Syntegra are identical to those of Philips’ Pinnacle 3-D radiation therapy planning system, enabling the sharing of information when PET is used in simulation and planning for radiation therapy.

The company’s new Ensphere workflow management solution is designed to integrate diagnostic images and patient information into the hospital system. Physicians can interact locally or remotely with Ensphere using a new system called the Physician’s Diagnostic Toolbox for Windows-based desktop or laptop computers.
