Cardiac PET was the focus for Hitachi Medical Systems America at the Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM) meeting in San Diego, with the Twinsburg, OH, company showcasing its SceptreC cardiac-optimized PET camera.
SceptreC is designed to target the growing market for rubidium-82-based cardiac PET imaging, which is experiencing renewed interest due to improved Medicare reimbursement and positive clinical studies.
SceptreC is built on Hitachi's Sceptre PET platform, but includes dedicated cardiac applications like Emory Cardiac Software PETtools, according to Raymond Wtulich, product manager for positron tomography. SceptreC also features Hitachi's 3D Pico electronics for higher count rates.
Hitachi also promoted its SceptreP3 PET/CT system, which includes a dual attenuation correction (DAC) feature that uses both the CT component of the camera and a sealed cesium source for attenuation correction. DAC can be used in applications such as correcting for artifacts created by metal implants.
On the software side, Hitachi discussed its Fusion 7D nonrigid image fusion application, which can improve lesion localization by correcting for separation differences between PET and CT. Fusion XD allows the fusing of three datasets and can be used to track changes due to therapy. Hitachi also discussed the integration of PACS functionality into its Avia review workstation.
