Gamma camera developer Gamma Medica-Ideas (GM-I) has unveiled a new digital gamma camera, eV-CZT.
The product features cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) crystal technology from the Northridge, CA-based firm's partner, eV Products of Saxonburg, PA. The use of CZT-based crystals improves the camera's signal-to-noise ratio, and the utilization of application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) technology allows for direct digital capture of image signals.
In addition, the eV-CZT camera allows for simultaneous imaging of isotopes with similar energies, such as technetium-99m and iodine-123, because the technology can image closely spaced isotopes, according to the company.
Gamma Medica-Ideas also said that the new detector material in the camera allows it to be positioned adjacent to strong magnets, such as those used in MRI, enabling the design of combined SPECT/MRI imaging systems.
The new camera is compatible with all existing GM-I imaging platforms, allowing existing installations to be upgraded to the new technology, the firm said.
