SNM's Technologist Section has revised its "Scope of Practice for the Nuclear Medicine Technologist 2007."
The updates from the Reston, VA-based organization are designed to better define a technologist's procedures, actions, and processes in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging.
With nuclear medicine technologists now performing CT scans and administering oral and IV contrast, as well as conducting in vitro testing and transmission imaging, SNM noted that its scope of practice is expanding to include parameters for patient care, quality control, diagnostic procedures, radiopharmaceuticals, radionuclide therapy, and radiation safety.
The revisions appear in the September issue of the Journal of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
