The Joint Commission has revised its 2009 hospital accreditation requirements to no longer require an appropriately trained registered pharmacist or doctor of medicine or osteopathy to be present in a laboratory when radiopharmaceuticals are prepared.
The revision includes the removal of the word "direct" in regard to the type of supervision needed for in-house preparation of radiopharmaceuticals.
The previous standard stated that radiopharmaceuticals could not be prepared unless an appropriately trained pharmacist or doctor of medicine or osteopathy provided direct supervision.
