Siemens Healthcare of Malvern, PA, plans to nationally distribute F-18 sodium fluoride (F-18 NaF) via its subsidiary, PETNet Solutions.
The move will supply the radiopharmaceutical to a network of 47 radiopharmacies in the U.S.
In February, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a memorandum allowing for coverage of the use of F-18 NaF with PET imaging to identify bone metastases of cancer. Allowing F-18 NaF to be used offers alternatives to molybdenum-99 (Mo-99), which currently is in short supply.
