Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL) again has delayed the restart of its National Research Universal (NRU) nuclear reactor in Chalk River, Ontario.
With 46% of repair activities and associated postrepair examinations completed, AECL now predicts the reactor will return to service in late May.
In its March 10 update, AECL noted that preparations continue for final repairs, with the next series representing "the greatest level of complexity." They include the installation of plates welded to the reactor vessel.
The first medical isotopes will be available for processing and distribution within 10 days of the NRU reactor being returned to service.
