Siemens Healthcare of Malvern, PA, will use its PETNet Solutions wholly owned subsidiary and its national network of 47 radiopharmacies to distribute F-18 sodium fluoride (F-18 NaF) free of charge to help alleviate the effects of the global molybdenum shortage.
Participants in this trial program will receive F-18 NaF for a nominal delivery fee between March 22 and April 9.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved F-18 NaF for detecting bone metastases, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has recently approved coverage of F-18 NaF PET and PET/CT imaging to identify bone metastasis of cancer under certain conditions.
Submission of NaF scan claims to other insurers is permitted only if its use covers NaF PET bone scans. As a condition of participation for the Siemens' offer, providers cannot charge patients for the NaF dose.
